These portraits were created by Greek artist Nikolaos Zisimos in support of our crowdfunding campaign for Essence. Digital copies will be made available to our backers.
Nikolaos Zisimos is a penetration tester and painter living in Piraeus, where he lives with his cat, Penelope. Although he is a classically trained pianist (he studied piano with Nelli Semitecolo and has a Diploma in Piano Performance), Nikos finds the anxiety of staring at a blank canvases or blue screens of death a little more bearable than the utter desperation of being stared at by strangers.

Yasmina Ghandour (Mina Mazar) creates to understand Herself and the Other, hoping others would join in her journey. Living between Beirut and Berlin, she completed a BFA in Graphic Design and a Studio Arts minor at the American University of Beirut, and a BA in Animation at the Academie Libanaise des Beaux Arts. She’s curiously restless and always tries to touch all art forms and medias, but her specialties are in fine arts, graphic design, illustration, animation and graphic novels.

Rashmi Gajare is an artist, poet, indologist, linguist and preservation architect.
She speaks multiple languages and loves learning new scripts. She considers New York City her muse and has performed her poetry at the Bowery Poetry Club, the Nuyorican and most often, the Parkside Lounge. She also loves going on archaeological digs and has backpacked through Europe. Some of her all-time favorite places are Hampi in India and the temples of Cambodia. Her most recent art installation was titled ‘Urban Palimpsest’, a multimedia collage based on one of her short poems.
